Assistant Principal Announcement

Dear John Adams Elementary School Families, 

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Jeffrey Palmer has been appointed as the new assistant principal for John Adams Elementary School, effective July 28, 2023. In this role, he will support me in leading the instructional program and ensuring its alignment with division regulations for curriculum design and assessment. 

In February 2023, Dr. Palmer was named the acting assistant principal at John Adams after having served as a science instructional and school performance coach at the school since 2021. Previously, he was a math and science instructional coach at James K. Polk Elementary School since 2019, having joined Polk as a classroom teacher in 2005 after previously working as an elementary school and middle school teacher in New York. Beginning in 2020, Dr. Palmer has been a principal at various ACPS schools each summer as part of the division’s summer learning program. 

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Elmira College in New York and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from the State University of New York at Brockport. Dr. Palmer has completed graduate courses in special education at the University of San Diego and Arkansas University and earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership from Liberty University. He holds a gifted endorsement on professional license from the College of William and Mary and a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License in three areas: Administration and Supervision PreK-12, Elementary Education PreK-6, and Gifted Education.

I, along with the entire John Adams school community, join in the excitement with Dr. Palmer as he collaborates with colleagues, families, students and other stakeholders to best serve the wonderfully diverse learning community at John Adams. He believes that John Adams is a very special place where professionals, students and families flourish and positively contribute to each other and the rich school culture. I am confident that his leadership capabilities and positive energy will align well with our John Adams family. So please help me welcome him to his new role as the assistant principal of John Adams Elementary School.
